Kambo Ceremony

Traditional Amazonian Cleansing Ritual in Joshua Tree

What Is Kambo?

Kambo is an ancient Amazonian purification practice that has been used for generations by indigenous tribes to cleanse the body, sharpen focus, and renew inner strength.

Unlike visionary plant medicines, Kambo is a physical and energetic reset—a powerful clearing ritual that helps release what no longer serves you.

Many seekers are drawn to Kambo when they feel:

• Stuck or stagnant energetically

• Called to reset their body and mind

• Ready for discipline and renewed clarity

• In need of deep release they can't achieve through other means

At Sacred Healing, we hold Kambo ceremonies with reverence, safety, and intention in the quiet desert sanctuary of Joshua Tree, Southern California.

Why People Choose Kambo

Kambo isn't for everyone—and that's exactly the point.

This ceremony calls to those who are:

✓ Ready to face intensity in service of transformation

✓ Seeking purification on a physical and energetic level

✓ Committed to release, not just relief

✓ Willing to trust the process, even when uncomfortable

✓ Looking for clarity, discipline, and renewed vitality

This is not a comfort ritual. This is a warrior's cleanse.

What Happens in a Kambo Ceremony?

Before the Ceremony:

  • Intention setting – You'll clarify what you're releasing and what you're calling in

  • Physical preparation – Guidance on diet, hydration, and readiness

  • Ceremonial grounding – Creating a safe, intentional container

During the Ceremony (15–45 minutes active):

  • Traditional application – Small points are opened on the skin, and Kambo (a natural secretion from the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog) is applied

  • Intense purification – Your body moves through a concentrated cleansing process (heat, nausea, release)

  • Supportive presence – Our experienced facilitators hold space with care and attentiveness throughout

After the Ceremony:

  • Rest and grounding – Time to recover, hydrate, and integrate

  • Post-ceremony support – Guidance for the hours and days following

  • Noticeable shifts – Many report feeling lighter, clearer, and more energized

The active experience is brief, but the effects often continue unfolding for days.

What You Might Experience

Every Kambo journey is unique, but participants commonly report:

Physical:

  • Intense body heat and activation

  • Nausea and purging (a key part of the cleanse)

  • Temporary discomfort followed by relief

  • Deep detoxification

Emotional & Energetic:

  • Release of stuck emotions or trauma

  • Energetic clearing and lightness

  • A sense of "reset" or renewal

  • Increased mental clarity

Afterward:

  • Sharper focus and presence

  • Renewed discipline and motivation

  • Physical vitality and energy

  • Emotional release and freedom

  • A feeling of being "recalibrated"

Many describe Kambo as difficult in the moment—and profound in its aftereffects.

Why Kambo in Joshua Tree?

The Joshua Tree desert offers a uniquely powerful setting for Kambo ceremony:

  • 🌵 Remote and quiet – Away from distraction and noise

  • 🌵 Energetically clear – The desert's stark beauty supports purification

  • 🌵 Grounded and elemental – Earth, sky, and silence hold the container

  • 🌵 Sacred space – Our ceremony site is intentionally chosen for healing work

Location matters. This land supports the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kambo legal?

Yes. Kambo is legal in the United States and is not classified as a controlled substance.

Is Kambo a psychedelic?

No. Kambo does not produce hallucinations or altered consciousness like Ayahuasca or psilocybin. It is a physical purification ritual, not a visionary experience.

How is Kambo administered?

Small superficial burns (called "gates") are made on the skin, and Kambo secretion is applied to those points. The process is traditional and performed with care.

Does it hurt?

The burn points cause brief discomfort but are superficial. The intensity of Kambo comes from the internal cleansing process, not the application itself.

Will I throw up?

Purging (vomiting) is common and is actually part of the cleansing. It's a sign the medicine is working. Not everyone purges, but most do.

How long do the effects last?

The active intensity lasts 15-45 minutes. Afterward, you'll rest and ground. Many people feel the benefits (clarity, energy, lightness) for days or weeks.

Can I drive myself home after?

We recommend having someone pick you up or arranging transportation. You'll need time to rest and shouldn't drive immediately after.

Do I need prior ceremony experience?

No. What matters most is readiness, respect, and willingness to engage with the process sincerely.

Can I do Kambo if I've never done plant medicine before?

Yes. Kambo is often a good entry point for those new to ceremonial work because it's brief and physically grounding (not psychedelic).

How often can I do Kambo?

Some people do Kambo multiple times per year as part of their practice. We can discuss frequency based on your intentions and needs.

Sarah, Yoga Teacher, San Diego

"Kambo was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. I released so much stuck energy and grief. The facilitators held me with such care. I'd do it again in a heartbeat."

Dr. James, Psychiatrist, San Francisco

"I've done Ayahuasca, breathwork, you name it. Kambo is different—it's physical, grounded, and deeply cleansing. I feel lighter and sharper. Highly recommend for anyone ready to do the work."
